A South African man has died after drinking an entire bottle of spirit in two minutes in order to win a liquor store challenge.
The South African who was not named visited the store in Mashamba village in Limpopo where he participated in the challenge to determine who could finish the bottled the fastest. He collapsed immediately after completing the 35 percent spirit.
The man was rushed to hospital upon falling to the ground. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The winner of the drinking competition was to be awarded a £10 for the achievement.
Limpopo Police have opened an inquest to his death.
‘Police in Waterval outside Louis Trichardt have opened a case of inquest following an incident of apparent misuse of alcohol that took place at one of the local liquor outlets at Mashumba Village where the patrons allegedly participated in what they called a ‘drinking competition,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.
‘The winner who could consume the entire bottle of Jägermeister within a specified time, would get R200 cash.
‘One of them immediately collapsed thereafter and was taken to the local clinic where he was certified dead.’
