Sharing is Caring

Moi never wanted the name Kenyatta to disappear in Kenyan politics. He therefore had to look for Uhuru Kenyatta, who was Kenyatta’s son so as to keep the name immortal.

Uhuru Kenyatta was therefore appointed as the chairman of  Kenya Tourism Board. In a short while, Uhuru was again appointed as a Member of Parliament to replace Mark Too.

Moi preferred Uhuru as his successor and was thereafter appointed as the Minister of Local Government. Uhuru vied using  KANU ticket  for the presidential seat in the year 2002 but was defeated by Mwai Kibaki.

During this time, NARC Kenya was more superior compared to KANU. Also there was a propaganda that Uhuru was a puppet controlled by Moi and this gave the opposition the upper hand.

During this time when Kibaki was the President, Moi face a lot of critics, others saying that he has reached political menopause. But when Kibaki signed the Presidential Retirements Benefits, Moi’s status changed drastically because he was now able to enjoy some privileges.

Moi’s people(Kalenjins) were neglected by the government and in the 2007 general election, they backed Raila Odinga for presidency. Their leader on the other hand was on the same table with Kibaki.

When the 2007 elections were announced, Mwai Kibaki was the winner, the Kalenjin community could not believe this and this led to caos. Uhuru has now ruled for two terms with Ruto as the running mate.
