Sharing is Caring

The hotline is toll free and operates in 24/7. It is made to provide confidential emotional support to those in mental health distress

Now individuals who feels that they are hitting the rock on mental based issues have been covered by just a three digit number phone call, to reach mental health professionals.

The network is made up of 200 local based crisis centers around the country to provide fast response when the emergency call is made. The number connects the caller to the nearest crisis.

“When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network,” the website says. “These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.”

Comparing the number to the previous 10-digit number, it’s easier to recall the three digit number during an emergency. It also connects the caller directly to the mental health professionals. The launch comes after the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act passed two years earlier

Despite the new fast and easy to recall three digit number, The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s 10-digit number, 800-273-8255, will remain operational.
