197,000 acres of land to be acquired for Lapsset Projects in Kenya

The chairman of National Land Commission (NLC) Prof. Mohamed Swazuri has confirmed that the land acquisition process for LAPSSET Projects in Kenya is beginning this week, reported the Daily Nation newspaper.

The regions under the LAPSSET Projects in Kenya corridor are: Garissa, Isiolo, Lamu, Laikipia, Marsabit, Moyale and Turkana. The chair of the commission confirmed that the money for land acquisition has been received and the process will start in earnest this week. The NLC chair called for cooperation from residents of these regions.

The projects include: Lamu International Airport (2,409 hectares); Lamu Resort (470 hectares); Lamu Industrial Zone and Isiolo Resort (5,012 hectares). In addition to that there will be an oil pipeline, 32-berth port at Lamu, highways and railway line among others.

These projects are expected to employ 100,000 local residents and above all boost Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product by 3 percent.
