Zhang Yiming is the co-founder of ByteDance which is popular for TikTok. The social media app has an excess of 1 billion users globally.
The company also has interests in news, e-commerce, gaming and education. In 2021, Zhang Yiming stepped down as chairman of ByteDance. The year before he had resigned as Chief Executive Officer. He was reportedly under pressure from Chinese government.
Zhang Yiming established ByteDance in 2012 in an apartment in Beijing.
