Jean Madar is the billionaire co-founder of Interparfums in 1982. The other co-founder is Philippe Benacin.

The two started the company while they were in business school after learning in class about the high profits in fragrance industry.

The company was listed on NASDAQ in 1988 with a valuation of $4 million. The company value is now estimated to be $3 billion.

Jean Madar was the company president until 1993 when he stepped down to become the Director General of Interparfums’s European subsidiary. He became company Chief Executive Officer in 1997.

Jean Madar is in charge of the company’s US operations which is responsible for 35 percent of its sales.
