Rafaela Aponte-Diamant met her husband Gianluigi during a trip to Italian island named Capri in the 60s. Gianluigi was a ship captain at the time. Together, they joined the shipping industry in 1970. They started with one ship which was acquired with a loan of $200,000.
MSC is the operator of MSC Cruises, Terminal Investment Limited and Medlog which is in inland logistics.
Rafaela Aponte-Diamant is in charge of decorating ships for MSC Cruises while her husband Gianluigi is the executive chairperson of the company. Finally, their son named Diego is the President at MSC.
The second ship that the couple acquired was named Rafaela in honor of the billionaire. In December 2022, MSC acquired Bollore Africa Logistics for $6 billion.
