Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church has died aged 88 years old. His real name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

He was elected as pope on 13 March 2013, he is also the Bishop of Rome. Previously, he served as the Archbishop of Buenos Aires. Pope Francis was the first Latin American to be elected as leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

During his many foreign trips, Pope Francis attracted millions of people. His papacy was marked with championing the rights of the poor and those affected by war. That is why he was called ”people’s pope”.

During his reign as Pope, Francis advanced LGBTQ and women rights.

 

The process of choosing the next pope known as conclave starts 15 and 20 days after the dead of a pontiff.
