South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa says that in the coming days the lockdown imposed due to coronavirus pandemic will be eased slightly, with more businesses and shops allowed to operate.
South Africa is the worst hit country in the African continent with about 12,000 coronavirus cases confirmed and 219 deaths connected with the virus.
Ramaphosa admitted on Wednesday in a live broadcast that his government had made mistakes but said the country was in unchartered territory.
He said that had it not been for the almost 8-week lockdown, more than 80,000 people would have been infected with the virus in the country.
He urged South Africans to take caution and said that if the restrictions were removed too abruptly there would be a risk of a quick and unmanageable increase in the number of infections.
