What is in Nairobi Finance Bill 2019?

The Nairobi Finance Bill 2019 came into effect on 1st July, 2019. This is a document which sets out the taxes, penalties, levies and charges to be paid in Nairobi City County.

To operate a large petroleum station in Nairobi to pay Ksh. 50,000 as charges while Ksh. 25,000 is being paid for medium petrol station and Ksh. 12,000 for small petrol station.

To operate a bar with 100 seats, you will be required to pay Ksh. 4,500 but for bar and restaurant the business people will pay Ksh. 12,000.

The gas sellers that you see around the estates are required to pay a flat rate of Ksh. 30,000 while gas filling stations are required to pay Ksh. 100,000.

Insurance Companies 

Large insurance companies are expected to pay Ksh. 25,000 while medium ones are required to pay Ksh. 12,000.

Commercial buildings

Commercial buildings up to 4th floors are required to pay Ksh. 12,000 while those up to 10 floors are required to pay Ksh. 14,000.

Religious bodies

According to Nairobi Finance Act 2019, small churches, Mosques and temples are required to pay Ksh. 5,000 per month while large ones are required to pay Ksh. 10,000.

Schools

Private Primary Schools with over 800 pupils are required to pay Ksh. 20,000 while private schools with between 1 – 300 pupils pay Ksh. 6,000 and public pay Ksh. 3,000.

Universities with a population over 2,000 students are required by county government to pay Ksh. 200,000.

Residential Houses

Each household in the informal settlement is required to pay Ksh. 100 per month while each household in the medium estates are required to pay Ksh. 300 per month and those in Upmarket and Central Business District will pay Ksh. 600 each.

Use of Uhuru Park

For you to hold political rallies using the main dias, you will have to pay Ksh. 250,000 to Nairobi County. On the other hand, in order to hold religious meetings such as camp meetings or crusades you will have to part with Ksh. 50,000.

The people who preach at lunch time are expected to pay Ksh. 1,500 per hour. However, for video shooting at Uhuru Park, you will have to pay Ksh. 5,000 to Nairobi County. However, commercial video shooting will be done after paying Ksh. 10,000.

To operate as a small vendor on Uhuru Park grounds, you will be required to pay Ksh. 100 per day to Nairobi City County.
