Sharing is Caring

President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued citizenship to 1,670 members of the Shona community who migrated from Zimbabwe to Kenya between 1930s – 1950s.

In addition to that 1,300 Rwandanese were issued with citizenship.

The Rwandanese migrated to Kenya as missionaries and established a church in Nairobi before settling down at Kinoo as illegal immigrants.

Selected 20 representatives of the Shona community received their citizenship documents before the head of state.

If you can remember in 2017, President Kenyatta officially recognized the Makonde as Kenyan people. These people had stayed in Kenya stateless since 1940s.

This is a positive step towards ending statelessness by 2024 as a goal by the United Nations.
