Sharing is Caring

According to Capital Ethiopia, the people in Tigray are using both the new and the old currency for financial transactions.

Ethiopia had started the process of demonetization on September 2020 when the new currency was introduced and the old notes were exchanged for 3 months up to December 15.

The ETB notes of 10, 50 and 100 were replaced with new notes with superior security features and a new 200 ETB note was introduced.

A total of 2.9 billion notes valued at ETB 262 billion were printed.

This mean that the use of the old currency had been brought to an end across Ethiopia but the use of old notes persisted in Tigray region.
