Sharing is Caring

The said video was posted on Instagram post.

The two teenagers were dancing at the monument of unknown Martyrs of the Sacred War Memorial in Iran’s capital city Tehran.

The monument was constructed by architect Marcelo D’Olivo to honor those who lost their lives during the Iran-Iraq war which happened between 1980 and 1982.

Iran authorities did not say what crime the girls will be charged with but they stated that the girls’ outfits were ‘inappropriate’ and both teenagers have had the Instagram accounts blocked.

Dancing in public is prohibited since the Islamic Revolution in 1979 when secular monarchy was overthrown in Iran. It was replaced by theocratic rule of the cleric Ayatollah Khmeini who died in 1989. He was succeeded by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the same year. He has served as supreme leader for 35 years.

Article 637 of the Irania penal Code provides that dancing in public is a crime against public modesty and one can be sentenced to flogging and receive 99 lashes.
