Zimbabwean teachers have opposed reopening schools in phases saying safety measures are not yet in place to combat the spread of coronavirus.
Sifiso Ndlovu, the teachers’ union chairperson, was quoted saying that if the government proceeded with the plan, the instructors would strike.
The Education Ministry of Zimbabwe recently announced plans to reopen schools in phases starting with final year students to allow them to sit for their national examinations starting end of June.
The Herald Newspaper quoted Mr Ndlovu as saying: ‘’Learners are not in the right psychological space to write examinations.’’
He urged the government to consider cancelling the examinations like the private Cambridge international examinations body had done.
Other African countries that are planning to reopen schools in June are Tanzania and South Africa.
