Sudan has extended lockdown in its capital, Khartoum, by an additional two weeks to curb the spread of coronavirus.
A government committee for health emergencies suggested the extension of the lockdown ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The committee fears that without the lockdown restrictions in place there would be overcrowding during the celebrations.
The committee’s deputy chairman Siddig Tawir said more guidelines will be issued.
Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok sacked Khartoum governor last month after he opposed ban on religious gatherings imposed to combat the spread of the virus.
2,591 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sudan with the virus claiming 105 lives.
