Sharing is Caring

Shinzo Abe was shot at the city of Nara.

A suspect, Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, of Nara City has already been arrested.

Shinzo is in a critical condition after he was shot on the neck and chest.

Abe is the longest serving Prime Minister in Japan.

Liberal Democratic Party to which Abe belongs has been in power since the end of World War II.

Abe resigned from office in 2020 following serious health concerns. However, he has remained a serious power broker within the party.

Attacks on public figures is very rare in Japan.

The current Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, has strongly condemned the attack.

“It is barbaric and malicious and it cannot be tolerated. We will do everything we can, and I would like to use the most extreme words available to condemn this act.”
