Sharing is Caring

The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has assured Kenyans that security has been beefed up across the country a head of the coming elections.

Karanja Kibicho, the PS for Interior was said this during an interview at a local radio station.

There’s no reason for panic-shopping and hurried re-locations over next week’s general election. Interior PS says adequate security has been deployed across the country to ensure peace prevails and that normal services are not disrupted,” statement on Interior twitter account read in part.

Meanwhile the Cabinet Secretary for Interior has declared August, 9 a public holiday to allow Kenyans to participate in the general elections.

The United States Embassy in Nairobi released an ALERT on August 2 ahead of August 9 elections. These kind of alerts are common ahead of elections in various countries. The Embassy has imposed restrictions to their staff in Kisumu and asked them to monitor local media updates, avoid crowds, be vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs, keep low profile and review their personal security plans during this time among other precautions.

Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) reacted to the U.S. alert. Mohamed Wehliye, the Snr Advisor to Saudi Central Bank said:

“Hey @USEmbassyKenya  Your staff are missing out! It is fun time in Kisumu.”

Along with the tweet, he posted a video of a political campaign in Kisumu with Reggae music playing in the background.
