Traffic flow on Outering road was interrupted on Friday morning after Kariobangi residents took to the streets following their eviction on Monday

The protesters lit bonfires and engaged the police in running battles. Some of the protesters were seen looting shops.

Motorists, pedestrians and other road users were caught up in the clashes.

The anti-riot police dispersed the protestors.

Reports say that the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company was behind the demolition to repossess the land that was allegedly grabbed.

About 5,000 families were left homeless and civil activists claim that there was a court order against the demolition exercise.

Majority of the Kenyans have criticized the government for allowing the demolitions go on at a time when it was urging people to stay at home to minimise the spread of coronavirus.

On Wednesday, senators led by Johnson Sakaja demanded that all those who were evicted to be compensated and action taken against the officials involved.
