Sri Lanka’s Premier, Mahinda Rajapaksa, has resigned amid protests over how his government handled the economic crisis.

 

 

The prime Ministers’ supporters are reported to have crushed with the anti-government protesters in Colombo which led to the injury of a minimum of 78 people.

 

 

The protests have been increasing due to ever increasing prices of goods and food as well as power cuts since April. Sri Lanka has witnessed its worst economic crisis since 1948 when they gained their independence.

 

 

The Prime Minister sent his resignation letter to his young brother president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, according to information released by his spokesman to the press.
