An earthquake hit the Pacific Island nation Vanuatu according to the United States Geological Survey. The tsunami was reported by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. This means that the coasts located within 186 miles of the epicentre will be affected.
‘Tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meters above the tide level are possible for some coasts of Vanuatu,’ a warning said.
No damages to property has been reported so far so good.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) has requested people to ‘move way from the coast and reach a higher place’ immediately.
Vanuatu a country with a population of 280,000 people is prone to natural disasters. The country is on what is known as the ‘Ring of Fire’ which means that there are numerous volcanoes and places with seismic activity around the edges of the Pacific Ocean.
The National Geographic indicates that approximately 90% of all earthquakes happen along the Ring of Fire. At least 75 percent of all active volcanoes are found along the Ring of Fire.
