Sharing is Caring

Police in Ghana have charged an activist for violating ban on gatherings and failing to notify the police following a Black Lives Matter protest in Accra on Saturday, the BBC reports.

Ernesto Yeboah, who is the leader of the pressure group Economic Fighters League, was arrested during the protests on Saturday night.

The police fired warning shots on those who were demanding his release.

The protestors had gathered to protest against police brutality following the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who died in the custody of police in Minneapolis, United States.

A police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes.

His death has led to demonstrations across the cities in the United States and across the world.

The event was also called to protest against police brutality in Ghana.

In a video, Mr Yeboah was seen addressing the participants on the need to end police brutality.

Mr Yeboah was charged for not notifying the police before the vigil. He however denied the charges in an interview with Joy news on Sunday after he was granted bail.
