Following international pressure after delayed presidential election results finally Congo’s electoral commission has announced the result.
Now it is official that Congo’s opposition leader, Felix Tshisekedi, is the president elect for Congo.
This election result will led to the first peaceful and democratic transfer of power from one regime to the next one since Congo gained independence from Belgium in 1960.
The Catholic Church is reported to have independently tallied the results and found that another opposition leader called Martin Fayulu had won the elections. This is expected to lead to protests. However, the electoral commission President Corneille Nangaa announced that Felix Tshisekedi hard received over seven million votes from the 30 December elections.

Felix was followed by Martin Fayulu who garnered 6.4 million votes while Joseph Kabila’s favorite candidate, Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, garnered 4.4 million votes.
This marks the end of Joseph Kabila’s 18 years in power since he took over from his father in 2001. His father was assassinated.
Now, the election losers if dissatisfied can contest the election results at Congo’s Supreme court. The court has 10 days to make a decision if that comes to be the case.
