Ferdinand Omanyala has won the LG Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Personality award for the month of August.


Omanyala walked away with LG washing machine worth Ksh105,000 after impressing the LG Sports. This his second personality award after bagging it last year.


Omanyala is on the move and hopes to break Angela Okuturi’s record. Angela won three personality of the month awards.

Meanwhile, Omanyala is the Kenya’s 60 year record breaker after winning men’s 100m in the Commonwealth Games.


He closed the men’s 100m finish line in 10.02 seconds. He overpowered Akani Simbine, the race’s defending champion who clocked 10.13seconds.


However, this was not Omanyala’s best after clocking. He earlier clocked 9.77seconds, a record that remains standing.


He became the first African to win two gold medals in the men’s 100m race.

On the LG washing machine, Omanyala said that it will continue inspiring many Kenyans.


He said: “It’s such a great feeling winning the award twice within a space of 12 months.”


“My success in Birmingham will no doubt continue to inspire and encourage many Kenyans over and above paving the way for many other local sprinters to come through.”


On the other hand, Maureen Kemunto, Corporate Marketing and communication manager LG East Africa, said that they will continue supporting upcoming Kenyan talent.
