The Office of Controller of Budget (OCoB) releases quarterly budget implementation reports for both counties and national government. In this blog article we will focus on how Mombasa County spent their budget for the first 9 months of Financial Year 2018/19. 

Mombasa County had an approved budget of Ksh. 13.59 billion for the year 2018/2019. 

Mombasa County had plans to generate Ksh. 3.88 million from local sources of revenue. However, the county was only able to raise Ksh. 2.61 billion. 

The county government spent Ksh. 130 million on domestic travel out of which Ksh. 7.81 million was spent by the County Assembly and the balance of Ksh. 122 million was spent by the County Executive.

Development budget 

A total of Ksh. 31 million was spent on renovation and extension of the Governors office. 

 Meru White Feather, Gusii, Access to CMC road was maintained at a cost of Ksh. 6.9 million for the first nine months of FY 2018/2019. 

According to the OCoB implementation reports, Simu ya Upepo Road was improved at a cost of Ksh. 15.7 million

It’s shocking that the department of Water and Natural Resources failed to spend their development expenditure. Nil. Zero budget was spent. No reasons are given on why this happened. 

Wage Bill

As usual, the wage bill ballooned further from Ksh. 2.5 billion during the first nine months of FY 2017/2018 to Ksh. 3.55 billion during the same period of 2018/2019.
