Sharing is Caring

In my opinion Tyler Cowen and Paul Krugman are the top economic bloggers of all time. The 3rd economic blogger is Mark Thoma economics.

The latter is an economics professor at the University of Oregon who is now retired. He is credited for making great changes in the world of Economics through his blog – Economist’s View. The blog was established in 2005.

Mark Thoma always posted his thoughts on public policy, theories and news. Later on he started compiling a list of links from other websites and blogs. This is when the blog became extremely influential.

He became a constant because he was posting his list of links on a daily basis.  It was also noted that his links were comprehensive. He gave a platform to many people who had important things to say.

Noah another popular economics professor says that if it was not for Mark Thoma, his blog could not have succeeded.

Mark Thoma economics blog was highly reliable and that is how he ended up transforming the world of economics blogging. His blog was like a meeting place for those who wanted to learn something about economics.

Later on as many people got into economics blogging and got to know each other personally, it all became a community.

The blogs have played a great role in promoting debate on macroeconomics issues bringing scholars down from their ivory towers and models. Now economics is being debated in public places without fear or favor.

Now it is possible for you to question the decorated theories of Nobel laureates in the broad daylight through use of blogs and social media as the new platforms.

Blogs have made it possible for all people to debate important policy issues in real time.

Blogs are more advantageous because unlike the academic journal articles which take years to get published, blogs are spontaneous and fast to get your argument out there.
Through blogs, policy makers can easily get feedback in a matter of days or weeks. Through blogs, we are now able to challenge any outdated idea and seek for change.

Mark Thoma always made sure that he also presented the arguments of the opponents in any debate. He was therefore, a fair arbiter in the economics debates.

Now that Mark Thoma is retired, this marks the end of an era in economics blogging. Now we have a chance to further discuss economics with all in the public arena on social media platforms. Now there is more transparency and openness in the field of economics than ever experienced before.
