Malawi invited the boxing legend Mike Tyson to become the cannabis official ambassador.

A lot of opposition against that choice has been registered following his conviction for rape that was committed by Tyson in the 1990s.

Malawi is one of the African countries that has legalized cannabis growing and processing for medicinal use. Recreational use is still illegal in Malawi.

Tyson has been engaging in the US cannabis industry for years. The country based their argument on the fact that having Mike Tyson as the face of Malawi’s  could attract investors to the new cannabis sub-sector.

Malawi’s Ministry of Agriculture did not say whether Mike Tyson accepted the offer to become the official ambassador of cannabis in Malawi.

In 1992, Mike Tyson was jailed for raping Desiree Washington, the then Miss Black America contestant. He was released in 1995.

“Malawi as a nation believes that Mr. Tyson is a right and reformed person as he was released on parole,” said Gracian Lungu the spokesperson of Malawi’s Ministry of Agriculture.
