Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya have been battling with locusts since end of 2019. Now, Uganda is the next port of call. The destructive insects – desert locusts- are now in Uganda according to Reuters. 

According for United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) a single Swarm of desert locusts can contain 40 million insects which has capacity to cause plenty of damage to crops. 

The desert locusts entered Uganda through the Northern region of Karamoja over the weekend on Sunday. 

The desert locusts are now a threat to coffee industry – major foreign exchange earner- and tourism.
