Liverpool Captain Jordan Henderson has been named the Footballl Writer’s Association Footballer of the Year.

Henderson, 30, led Liverpool to win their first league title in 30 years this season.

The England international garnered more that a quarter of the votes.

Those who finished in the top five include hi Liverpool team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane, Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

Henderson, who has been injured since the start of the month, was influential in leading Liverpool this season.

Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema was named the FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year earlier in July.
