Sharing is Caring

Lewis Hamilton won a breath-taking Russian Grand Prix after Lando Norris was denied his first victory following a sensational finale.

Lando Norris, 21, appeared to be doing well and become the youngest British Formula 1 winner. But the chances diminished when 8 laps were remaining to the end and it started raining in Sochi.

Hamilton switched to the wet tyres with four laps remaining, but Lando Norris continued using the slick rubber after telling his McLaren team he did not want to stop.

A troubling decision

Lando came to regret the decision considering that the he rain increased and it was difficult to maintain his McLaren on the race track. When he entered lap 51 of 53, Hamilton took the lead position on the race while Norris Lando stopped to get the wets fixed.

That way Hamilton clinched his 100th win of his career. The complete the top three winners was Max Verstappen at position two and Carlos Sainz at position three.

Lando Norris dropped to position seven during the race.

Now Hamilton is leading in the championship with two points a head of Verstappen with 7 races to go. After the race, Hamilton hugged Norris and said “It has taken a long time to get to 100, and I wasn’t sure whether it would come. Lando did such an amazing job, he is doing a great job for McLaren, and it was bittersweet to see my old team ahead.”

“But my team made a great call right at the end. I didn’t want to let Lando go, and I didn’t know what the weather was going to do. Wow! One hundred. It would have been tough to get past Lando, but the rain came, and we were opportunistic.

“It is also a dream result for Max.”
