According to a statement made by the Education Cabinet Secretary, schools will close by the 2nd of August to give way for the upcoming general elections.

 

The schools will resume on the 11th of August after a ten-day mid-term break. He also said that the dates will be revised if there will be a re-election.

 

Repetition of the elections will wast of time for students, especially the candidates sitting for national examinations this year.

 

In this 2022 academic year, the Grade Six exams have been added to the regular Examination candidates that is; Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). The total number of candidates will then add up to 1.27 million.

 

 “As you are all aware, Kenya is scheduled to conduct general elections on the 9th of August 2022. I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the immediate closure of all basic learning institutions with effect from Tuesday 2nd August 2022 until Wednesday 10th August 2022 to ensure that preparations and conduct of the upcoming elections is carried out seamlessly,” the CS said in a statement.
