Italian giants Juventus have appointed Andrea Pirlo as their new manager on a two-year contract.

The former Italy midfielder was appointed manager of Juventus Under-23 ten days ago but has been promoted to take charge of the first-team.

He replaces Maurizio Sarri who was sacked on Saturday after being bundled out of the Champions League by Lyon following a 2-2 draw on aggregate.

Andrea Pirlo left Juventus in 2015 after the Bianconeri lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final.

Andrea Pirlo joined American side New York City where he played for two years before hanging up his boots.

As a player, Andrea Pirlo won the World Cup in 2006 with Italy. He won six Serie A titles, two with Milan and four with Juventus.

He also won two Champions League titles as a Milan player, in 2003 and 2007.
