John Ngumi, 65, has been appointed the chairman of Safaricom Kenya.
The company made the announcement on Twitter.
“He established himself as East Africa’s foremost corporate and investment banker, working with local and international/global corporates that have an East African regional presence, state-owned enterprises, sovereigns, and financial services groups,” Safaricom statement read in part.

John Ngumi is replacing Michael Joseph as Chairman of Safaricom. The latter has served in that position for 3 years.
He has been serving as chairman of Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC), previously he also served as the chairman of Konza Technopolis Development Authority.
Ngumi commenced his career at Natwest Bank in London. He has also worked at Barclays, Citibank and Standard Bank of South Africa among many others.
John Ngumi holds a bachelors’ degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from St. Peter’s College, Oxford University in United Kingdom.
