Sharing is Caring

Ollolai town in Italy is selling about 200 homes at $1.25 each equivalent to Ksh. 125 shilling.  They are selling them at low rates to lure new customers so that the town doesn’t become a ghost town.

The population in this villages has declined greatly for the last 50 years.  You can forgo a cup of coffee to own a home in Ollulai now. In this town, you can access the sheep cheese, artisan baskets, nice delicacies, and even traditional celebrations.

The new owners will be required to renovate the houses within three years. The renovation will cost about $25,000. The mayor of the town, Efisio Arbau, hopes that the strategy will help to preserve the traditions of the town.

The Ollolai village is located on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. It is at risk of turning into a ghost town. The population of the village has declined from 2,250 to 1,300 people over the past ha is half-century. There are several homes abandoned.

According to CNN, the government is selling the homes cheaply to attract more residents. More than three houses have been sold already, and more than 100 people from all over the world have shown interest.

Like other things that are too good to be true, the new residents will need to pay $25,000 to renovate the homes within three years.

This is not the first time a village is selling its homes at low rates. Gang town also started selling its homes at $1.25 in 2015. The owners were expected to present their renovation plans within the first year and then fix the houses within three years. Some of the US cities have tried a similar strategy to attract new owners.

Some of the towns include Indiana and Gary, the larger cities include Michigan, Indianapolis, Detroit, and others. The homes have been listed for $1 and others for free.

It is unclear if the strategy will work in Ollolai town, but the mayor is optimistic.
