Sharing is Caring

Ethiopia is building the largest hydroelectric power station across the Blue Nile.

This development project is creating a lot of tension between Egypt and Ethiopia.

This far, the dam is two thirds complete and will start producing power by 2021.

The United Nations (UN) predicts that Egypt will start suffering from acute water shortages by 2025 and her over 100 million people will suffer because they depend on water from River Nile.

The Nile waters benefits Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. Ethiopia has already reported that there is no force which will stop the construction of the $4.8 billion Grand Ethiopia Rennaissance Dam. In fact, Ethiopia has in the past indicated their ability to mobilize 1 million armed soldiers to defend the dam against external aggression.

Sudan seems to be happy because the dam being built by Ethiopia will help in controlling floods in their country.

Recently, Ethiopia skipped the peace talks held in Washington DC. Many pundits argue that conflict between Ethiopia and Egypt will not be necessary considering that Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia should find an amicable solution in sharing the waters from the Nile River.
