Sharing is Caring

Ghana’s president Nana Akufo-Addo has announced measures to ease restrictions on public gatherings in the country, the BBC reports.

Church services and Muslim prayers can take place with 100 congregants at a time and for one hour.

The worshippers must wear face masks and keep social distance.

The directives will take effect as from Friday.

Restrictions were imposed in Ghana two months ago so as to curb the spread of coronavirus.

In a televised address, President Akufo-Addo said the decision to relax restrictions was based on their risk profile, social and economic impact and the country’s ability to respond to a major outbreak.

Final year students will be allowed resume school.

Political activities, Conferences, non-contact sport and weddings with a limited number of participants will also be allowed.

However, nightclubs, cinemas, political rallies and other festivals remain banned.

Ghana’s borders also remain closed.

Mr Akufo-Addo also confirmed that plans are underway to evacuate Ghanaians stranded abroad. However, they’ll have to be quarantined and tested for coronavirus.

More than 8,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Ghana with 36 deaths connected with the virus.
