Sharing is Caring

Ethiopia has launched its 2nd remote-sensing satellite into space, according to the Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute.

The satellite is named ET-SMART-RSS and will be used as the earth observation nano-satellite. It was designed by Ethiopian engineers in collaboration with China’s Smart Satellite Technology Corporation under and the project was funded by Ethiopia and China.

Dr. Solomon Belay, Director General of the Institute,  was quoted in the past saying that Ethiopia’s second satellite will be launched on December 20, 2020, from China’s Taiyuan Spacecraft Launch Site.

This new satellite has better resolution features that would enable it to capture and relay high-quality images to its command centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The satellite images will be used for disaster prediction, agriculture, as well as monitoring the environment.

Ethiopia launched its 1st satellite into space in December 2019 with an objective of encouraging scientific innovation.
