According to the Office of Controller of Budget annual report, county government of Nakuru budget of Ksh. 23.51 billion for the fiscal year 2021/2022.
To finance county government of Nakuru budget expected to receive Ksh. 13 billion as equitable share of revenues raised nationally, generate Ksh. 3.38 billion and had a balance brought forward from FY 2020/2021 of Ksh. 5.7 billion.
Nakuru County also expected to receive Ksh. 1.41 billion in the form of conditional grants.
Revenue performance
In FY 2021/2022, Nakuru County received Ksh. 11.98 billion as equitable share of revenue raised nationally, they raised Ksh. 3.26 billion as Own Source of Revenue, ksh. 302 million as conditional grants and had a cash balance of Ksh. 5.7 billion from FY 2020/2021. A total of Ksh. 21.24 billion was available.
Nakuru County operates an automated Own Source of Revenue collection system known as County Integrated Financial Management System (CIFOMS). The county has improved significantly improved her revenue collection. This is attributed to improved surveillance, automated reinforcements and mapping.
Out the money which was available for expenditure in According to the Office of Controller of Budget annual report, county government of Nakuru budget of Ksh. 23.51 billion for the fiscal year 2021/2022., the Office of Controller of Budget approved the withdrawal of Ksh. 17.12 billion from the County Revenue Fund. A total of Ksh. 5.19 billion was to be spent on development projects while Ksh. 11.93 billion was for recurrent spending.
Nakuru County Expenditure
Nakuru County spent Ksh. 15.54 billion on development and recurrent programmes. This was 90.8 percent of all the money released by the Office of Controller of Budget.
Expenditure on development projects was absorbed only 51.6 percent while recurrent budget was absorbed 78.3 percent.
Pending Bills
The outstanding bills as at 30th June 2021 amounted to Ksh. 245 million. A total of Ksh. 169.11 million was cleared during FY 2021/2022.
As of 30th June 2022, According to the Office of Controller of Budget annual report, county government of Nakuru budget of Ksh. 23.51 billion for the fiscal year 2021/2022. had Ksh. 805.89 million as pending bills. This is the total that was confirmed as eligible by the Office of Auditor General.
County government of Nakuru spent Ksh. 6.39 billion on compensation of employees, Ksh 5.17 billion on development and Ksh. 2.57 billion on operations and maintenance.
Nakuru County Funds
County government of Nakuru has established a number of public funds with the approval of the County Assembly. Nakuru allocated Ksh. 626 million to county funds in FY 2021/2022.
The following funds were allocated funds in county government of Nakuru:
- Persons Living with Disability – Ksh. 100 million
- Bursary Fund – Ksh. 71 million
- MCA car and Mortgage Loan – Ksh. 100 million
- County Executive Car and Mortgage Loan – Ksh. 40 million
- Nakuru County Enterprise Fund – Ksh.60 million
County government of Nakuru has 73 Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
Development Expenditure
Nakuru County incurred Ksh. 5.48 billion in FY 2021/2022.
County of Nakuru implemented numerous development projects such as the construction of Naivasha Market (Ksh. 115 m), constructed Country Treasury (Ksh. 150 m), Construction of Afraha Stadium (Ks. 128 m), installation of a 2000 litre Oxygen plant at General Hospital (Ksh. 102 m), construction of bitumen road in Lakeview Ward (Ksh. 89 m), upgrading of Molo Sub-County Hospital (Ksh. 73 m).

Nakuru County Assembly had the highest absorption of development budget at 85.8 percent which County Public Service Board did not report any expenditure to budget at 100%.
