Sharing is Caring

In a few days’ time I will be attending a workshop in Israel on corporate capture- a very serious issue which is affecting human rights and how public institutions work.

Corporate capture goes against the spirit of Article 21(1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that “the will of the people shall be the basis for authority of government.”

Before we go too far, it is in order for us to define corporate capture.

“Corporate capture is defined by the undue influence that corporations exert over national and international public institutions, manipulating them to act according to their priorities, at the expense of the public interest and the integrity of the systems required to respect, protect and fulfill human rights, and safeguard the environment. As such corporate capture operates as a significant ‘rot cause’ of corporate human rights abuses.”

Corporate capture is quite common nowadays from the Western World to the developing countries.

Corporate capture refers to the means by which an economic elite undermine the realizations of human rights and the environment by exerting undue influence over domestic and international decision-makers and public institutions, – Escr-Net

And,

Corporate capture is the influence of companies on public institutions, for example by lobbying – Friends of the Earth.
