The number of Covid-19 cases in Africa has passed the one-million mark.

According to the data collected and compiled by the John Hopkins University, a total of 1,008,159 cases had been confirmed at 1000HRS EAT on Friday.

South Africa is the hardest hit country in the continent. A total of 538,134 coronavirus cases have been confirmed. This accounts for half of the total cases in the continent.

The virus has claimed over 22,000 lives in the African continent.

Most coronavirus cases in Africa are concentrated around major cities.

There are still low levels of testing in most African countries, meaning the number of infections could be higher than reported.

Globally, over 19 Million people have been infected with the deadly virus. Over 700,000 people have also succumbed to the virus.

The United States is the hardest his country across the globe, with 4.8 Million cases confirmed. Brazil comes second with 2.9 Million cases and India third with over 2 Million cases.
