Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta will spend the 2020-21 season on loan at Genoa.

A statement published on Chelsea’s website read: ”Davide Zappacosta is returning to Italy on loan. He will play for Genoa in the 2020/21 season.”

The 28-year-old right-back joined Chelsea in 2017 from Torino and went on to make 52 appearances for the Blues.

He spent last season on loan at AS Roma, where he missed much of campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. 

Zappacosta made 6 appearances for Paul Fonseca’s side after returning from injury.

Serie A clubs Fiorentina and Atalanta were interested in signing him.

However, The Italy international has joined Genoa, who survived relegation from the Serie A on the final day of the season.

Genoa have also secured Juventus midfielder Marko Pjaca on loan and are in talks to sign Tottenham full-back Danny Rose.
