Sharing is Caring

Tanzania opposition leader Tundu Lissu has been nominated by his Chadema Party to run for presidency in the upcoming elections.

Tanzania is scheduled to hold elections on October 28.

Tundu Lissu was shot 16 times outside his home in Dodoma in September 2017. He survived the injuries after receiving treatment in Belgium.

He returned to Tanzania on July 27 and has been nominated by his party.

He garnered 405 votes out of 442 votes cast by the members of the Chadema national council in a meeting held at Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam on Monday.

His closest competitor Lazaro Nyalandu got 36 votes.

The national delegates conference is scheduled for Tuesday and Tundu Lissu is expected to be approved.

Should he be approved, he will challenge incumbent President John Pombe Magufuli.

Chadema deputy Secretary General Salum Mwalimu has been endorsed as Lissu’s running mate.
