Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong has revealed that he never wanted Manchester United transfer come a reality. He preferred taking a pay cut over joining the Reds Devils.

Manchester United and Barcelona had already agreed a deal worth £72million.

However, there were some financial problems between Barcelona and the Holland international that had to be settled before the move.

De Jong then decided to go quiet considering that he wanted to stay with Xavi, Barcelona boss.

He said: “I always wanted to stay at Barcelona and this is why I always remained calm in the summer.”

Meanwhile, De Jong is confident Xavi still has plans for him in the club.

He said: “But look.. the club has it’s own ideas and I have my own ideas too and sometimes this clashes with each other.

“But at the end of the day things went OK.”

De Jong transferred from Ajax, where Ten Hag managed before moving to Manchester United. However, it is not clear why the midfielder does not want to reunited with his former boss.
