Italians had been allocated Ethiopia during the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885.

At the time of the war, the Italians had already occupied Eritrea. They thought Ethiopia as a push over. This was never to be, they were defeated terribly by Emperor Menelik II.

The Italian general had promised Italian parliament that he would bring back Emperor Menelik II in a cage. This never happened considering that Italy was defeated by Ethiopia.

The fact that they met in Berlin in 1884-85 and made a decision to colonize Africa did not prevent Ethiopia from defeating the Italians.

In 2004, Haiti celebrated 200 years of their victory against the colonial masters.
