Atletico Madrid have confirmed that head coach Diego Simeone has tested positive for coronavirus.

The 50-year-old is asymptomatic and is self-isolating.

Atletico’s statement read: “This Friday new PCR tests were carried out on the whole group and the manager has given a positive result.

“Fortunately, our manager is not showing any symptoms and is at his home isolating and fulfilling the required quarantine.”

Atletico Madrid are scheduled to play Cadiz in a friendly game on Tuesday, ahead of their season opener at home to Granada on September 27.

Earlier this month, players Diego Costa and Santiago Arias tested positive for the deadly virus while on vacation.
