Former Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Chelsea winger Arjen Robben has come out of retirement to sign for Dutch side Groningen.
The 36-year-old retired in 2019 after helping Bayern to win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal Cup for 2018-19.
The former Netherlands international has now returned to the club where he started his career.
“It is my dream to wear the Groningen shirt again,” he said.
“I don’t know yet whether this will work. What I do know is that it will not depend on my commitment and motivation.
“The club can use any help during this period to get through the corona crisis.
“These past weeks I’ve had many conversations with club staff and maybe more than anything I’ve listened to the call of our supporters: Arjen, follow your heart!”

Robben made his professional debut for Groningen in 2000 and spent two seasons before joining PSV where he won the league title in 2002-03 campaign.
He won titles in England, Spain and Germany with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively.
Robben made 96 appearances for the Netherlands national team, scoring 37 goals. He was part of the squad that lost in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final to Spain.
