A total of 65.7 million registered voters in Philippines cast their votes to elect their new leader to replace the populist Rodrigo Duterte. 

 

 

The two leading contenders according to the opinion polls are Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr and the current Vice President, Leni Robredo.

 

 

There are 8 other contenders for presidency including the former boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao. 

 

Ferdinand Marcos Sr was a dictator who was infamous for human rights abuses, torture and corruption. He was overthrown from power in 1986 and he had ruled the Asian country from 1972.
