Sharing is Caring

According to media reports, a new variant of Covid-19 has been discovered in Nigeria.

According to John Nkengasong, head of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, there is a new strain of Covid-19 named P681H. This was announced on Thursday, December 24.

The scientist stated that it is different from the other strains discovered in South Africa and United Kingdom recently.

Currently, there are approximately 4,000 variants of coronavirus. However, scientists believe that those reported in UK and South Africa are more deadly and very infectious.

These new variants are putting into jeopardy the ability of the vaccines to deal with the coronavirus.

So far, it is not clear what will be the effect of the new Nigerian variant on the vaccines.

Africa CDC will hold a meeting to discuss how they are going to handle the new strains going forward.
