Alexey Mordashov & family are majority shareholders of Severstal which is a steel company. He served as CEO for 19 years before resigning in 2015.
He still holds 77 percent of Severstal. The company lost $400 million in 2022 as a result of Western sanctions.
Severstal sold two steel plants in the United States in 2014. The billionaire earned a Master of Science in Engineering from Leningrad Institute of Economics. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from University of Northumbria.
