The two-headed calf was born on a farm in the Brazilian municipality of Nova Venecia in the state of Espirito Santo on the evening of 13 December 2021 and is unable to feed or stand naturally.

The son of the calf owner, Delci Busatto, told the local media that the calf with two heads on their farm is not able to suck milt from its mother and instead feeds from a bottle.

The family is already consulting experts on this matter. However, vets said that they do not understand what is the main cause of the calf to have two heads.

“We have talked to some vets, but no one has any answers as to whether it will survive or not,” Busatto said.

“For now it is just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens,” Busatto said.

The cow had given birth to two other normal offsprings, this was its third one which came out as a mutant.

Mutations can be cause by DNA copying errors during the process of cell division, infection by viruses or due to exposure to radiations and mutagens.
