Kenyan man who was working as security guard died after falling while working at Lusail Stadium on Saturday as revealed by Qatar authorities.
World Cup organisers announced that John Kibue, 24, died on Tuesday. He was in ICU for three days and has become the latest worker to die during the World Cup tournament.
John’s employer, Al Sraiya Security Services, has not released any statement in regards to this death.
John Kibue migrated to Qatar from Kenya to Qatar a year ago according to The Athletic.
‘We want justice. We want to know what caused his death. They have never sent us a picture to show where he fell from or given us any other information,’ said his sister Wanjiru.
John Kibue, was admitted to Hamad General Hospital in Doha after a ‘severe head injury, facial fractures and pelvic structures’, said CNN.
The local authorities are investigating the incident and will make sure that his family will receive all outstanding dues.
The death of John happened after Argentina beat the Netherlands through penalties on Saturday morning.
‘We regret to announce that, despite the efforts of his medical team, he sadly passed away in hospital on Tuesday 13 December, after being in the intensive care unit for three days,’ Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
‘His next of kin have been informed. We send our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and friends during this difficult time.’
United States Journalist Grant Wahl died after collapsing during the match. The CEO of World Cup, Nasser Al Khater, confirmed the death of another worker at the training site. He sent condolences to his family.
He slipped off a ramp while working alongside a forklift and fell on concrete. Medics immediately responded to the emergency but the worker could not be saved.
